Shade Matching for Anterior Teeth

Procedure Details

The challenge with any filling on a front tooth is to make the filling look natural and blend it in with the surrounding color and shape of the tooth. In this case, Dr. Shattuck used 4 shades to achieve a natural transition from the gum line to the middle of the tooth and match the fillings to all the surrounding teeth. Using a special bevel technique, and selective enamel etching Dr. Shattuck was able to reduce shrinkage tension on the composite which helps keep the transition zone from the enamel to the composite resin unnoticeable. Then utilizing chairside color matching, he used 4 different shades of resin to achieve a custom color match for the patient and blend it into his existing tooth color. The result was a natural appearing restoration, the elimination of the decay and discoloration from the teeth.

At Radiant Dental Care in Haslet, TX Dr. William Shattuck has years of experience placing composite restorations on teeth that are prominent in patient's smiles.  The key is to match the shade of the restoration to the patient's teeth and create a transition zone between natural tooth and resin so that the two materials blend together.  This results in a stronger restoration more resistant to stain that looks natural. Achieving this look requires skill, time, and attention to detail, something you will find no shortage of at Radiant Dental Care!
