Amalgam Replacement with Composite Resin
This mid thirties patient came to see Dr. William Shattuck in Haslet, TX for a regular exam and cleaning. Upon completion of the exam, Dr. Shattuck noted the decay under an otherwise unremarkable amalgam filling. The tooth had been leaking because of a fracture the silver filling had caused. This crack extended underneath the filling near the top of the tooth and was the source of leakage both into and out of the tooth. More
Dr. William Shattuck removed the fracture, decay, leakage, and old amalgam and replaced it with a bonded tooth colored filling. The bonding agent will help stabilize the tooth and help prevent refracture and the nature of the tooth colored resin will prevent future leakage. More
Amalgam Filling Replacement
A leaking amalgam restoration was identified in its early stages by Dr. William Shattuck. At his practice Radiant Dental Care in Haslet, TX his goal is to be proactive and address areas of damage before they cause a catastrophic failure of the tooth. He identified the fracture and leakage occurring under an old amalgam restoration and removed the damaged part of the tooth as well as the old silver filling. Early identification of fractures around fillings as well as early identification of decay under fillings is key to keeping restorations small and preventing the need for root canals and crowns down the road. At Radiant Dental Care our goal is to be as conservative as possible and save our patients needless headache and discomfort down the road by addressing areas of damage proactively.
