Correction of Mesial Drift
An adult in his mid 40's came to see Dr. William Shattuck at his office in Haslet, Texas. He had been experiencing heavy anterior crowding or "drifting". Lower teeth are prone to this pattern of crowding as we age, especially if crowding was already relatively heavy as a teenager. Once patients hit their 30's this pattern continues to accelerate as time goes on. The displacement of the canines in particular had thrown this patient's bite off and caused some premature wear. The gum recession that was occurring around the canines was particularly concerning. The goal for this patient was to straighten as much as possible, correct the bite and canine position to limit future recession in the area. This patient has heavy staining from severe fluorosis which was alleviated by the use of whitening gel while he was in his Invisalign trays.
