Root Canal Therapy Overview
If detected early on, tooth decay is addressed with a standard filling or something similar to remove the decay and close off the area. But when the decay spreads beyond the outer tooth and affects the inner portion of the tooth, you will likely need a root canal. Often called an endodontic treatment, root canal therapy at Radiant Dental Care removes the damaged pulp from the tooth, sanitizes the cavity, and then fills and seals the tooth. Dr. William Shattuck may recommend this therapy to individuals in Haslet, TX and the surrounding area because it treats the infection and keeps the decay from moving to other teeth (creating a larger issue).
We understand that you might have reservations about the procedure, even if you believe you could benefit from root canal therapy. Though root canals are a common dental treatment, patients often avoid going to the dentist to address tooth pain because of common dental fears. Dr. Shattuck and his staff make their best effort to help you feel at ease and comfortable, and we also provide sedation for any fear and anxiety. Call Radiant Dental Care to set up a consult with Dr. Shattuck for more information on root canal therapy and sedation dentistry.
"I love this dentist office!!! I recently moved out to Rhome and was in search of a new dentist. I found one extremely close, which I should have realized that close does not mean better. I used to be so comfortable I could fall asleep while having my teeth cleaned. The other place was painful, tense, unprofessional, an unexpected bill (when I was told everything was covered), and worst of all it hurt for 3 days even brushing my teeth.Radiant Dental changed my mind forever. I was hesitant at first because of my last experience at the other place. The staff and hygenist are nothing but extraordinary. Dr. Shattuck made sure I was comfortable and welcomed any questions before having a filling done. He was the least painful dentist I have EVER been to when it comes to fillings. Thanks everyone for such a welcome and professional visit that I no longer have anxiety and can fall asleep in the chair while having my teeth cleaned once again."- I.E. / Google / Jan 28, 2020
"The best dentist and dental office ever. I went in for a consult about a tooth that had been pulled by another dentist and after the doctors diving into my dental history about my TMJ and he offered treatment not a bandaid. I am so happy to be doing Invisalign to straighten my teeth and fix my cross bite causing the TMJ issues. I am now more pain free and lessened headaches. I followed all his instructions and recommendations and what was supposed to take 18-24 months is only been 12 months and soon will be over and into retainers and mouth guard. I am so happy i found Radiant Dental. Without him i would be hooked on muscles relaxers that really did not help and may have needed surgery to correct my TMJ. Yes thank you and the staff is amazing. They help me and offered suggestions and advise with any questions i had from Invisalign to billing questions and concerns. This is the best place ever and I know that my husband who recommended them to me and he hates dentists but loves this place! So if your looking for a great dental office then this is where you need to stop looking and come to Radiant Dental."- A.B. / Google / Jan 07, 2020

Best Candidates for Root Canal Therapy
An infection that reaches the pulp of your tooth may be the result of a cavity, a deep crack in the tooth, or a physical injury. The most obvious signs that you could have an infection are tooth pain, jaw pain, swollen and discolored gums, and discoloration of the affected tooth. If the infection is not addressed, the infection will spread, causing increased pain. Set up an appointment at Radiant Dental Care right away if you feel or notice any changes in your mouth. If you have reservations or fears about going to the dentist, don't hesitate to ask us about sedation dentistry to help you remain calm and at ease during your dental appointments.
What To Expect with Root Canal Therapy
Prior to the treatment, your anesthetic/sedation options will be discussed with Dr. Shattuck. We do not want you to feel nervous, anxious, or scared during your appointment. Some individuals ask for nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or oral-conscious sedation for a root canal. Dr. Shattuck is very sympathetic about dental fear and will try to help you make the necessary decision about your sedation needs.
To perform an endodontic procedure, Dr. Shattuck will examine the innermost part of your tooth and extract the decayed pulp. Afterward, the inner chamber will be carefully cleaned to eliminate any remaining decay. To finalize the therapy, the tooth is filled with a dental filler to seal and protect it from further decay.
If, after your consultation, Dr. Shattuck determines that you are experiencing a failing previous root canal, he will refer you to a specialist with extra experience in saving teeth on the verge of being lost.
Root Canal Therapy Recovery
After your root canal procedure, you should expect your mouth to feel tender or swollen, but these are normal symptoms and can be reduced with anti-inflammatory medications. We recommend that you set up a follow-up about six months post-procedure. Dr. Shattuck will examine the area to make sure the infection has been eradicated and that there is no cause for concern. Afterward, you should continue to schedule yearly dental checkups and twice-yearly dental cleanings to maintain your oral health.
Root Canal Therapy Insurance Coverage
At your consultation, Dr. Shattuck will give you cost estimates to align your treatments with your health needs and your budget. If you currently carry dental insurance, we will call your provider to figure out your benefits.
