Best Candidates

Professional teeth whitening is a great solution for patients seeking to remove discoloration and stains from their teeth and get a whiter smile. Before you get GLO teeth whitening, Dr. Shattuck will ensure your teeth are strong enough to handle the procedure and talk about your concerns, aims, and treatment choices. Professional whitening is perfect if you would like quick, dramatic benefits or if you've got dental restorations, such as bridges or crowns. Unlike store-bought whitening products, your GLO procedure at Radiant Dental Care will be personalized to your requirements so that you get appealing, even whitening.  GLO  is one of the few whitening systems capable of lightening tetracycline staining and whitening some porcelain crowns.

What to Expect

Performed in our office, GLO professional teeth whitening doesn't require anesthesia. Prior to application of the whitening agent, your teeth will be cleaned and dried for optimal results. Afterward, a protective barrier will be put over your gums, to prevent gingival irritation and your eyes will be shielded using special glasses. Dr. Shattuck will paint a professional-strength gel on your teeth and expose your mouth to the light. The blend of this blue wave light and gel work to remove the stains. Based upon your present enamel shade and desired result, this procedure might be repeated 2 – 3 more times until the desired results are achieved. As soon as your procedure is done, the rest of the gel and gum barrier will be cleaned before your teeth are rinsed.  The GLO system is so effective some patients continue to whiten up to 2 shades over the 24 hours immediately after their appointment. Radiant Dental Care also offers a combination package of one GLO session in the office and an at-home maintenance kit to ensure that you maintain your desired shade for the long term without having to resort to regular professional grade whitening sessions.

recovery

Most patients are cleared to return to their usual activities following their GLO session. However, it is always best for you should stay away from products that will stain your teeth (coffee, lipstick, tobacco products) for at least two days following your treatment. This ensures that the whitening agent has time to penetrate your enamel to the fullest extent possible. For the first 24 hours, you may encounter mild sensitivity to cold and heat, but this resolves in 3 – 5 days. Taking acetaminophen for mild sensitivity helps it resolve faster as does application of a calcium infused topical ointment available in our office called MI Paste. To maintain your results, you need to brush your teeth whenever possible after having staining food and drinks or exposure to tobacco. You must adhere to a daily oral hygiene regimen, including cleaning and flossing, to avoid accumulation of new stains. Professional cleanings twice per year at Radiant Dental Care can also help eliminate darker stains as they arise. Should you want to renew your results in a couple of years, you can schedule a second GLO procedure or ask Dr. Shattuck, although with daily homecare and use of the GLO at home maintenance system after an in office session, this is usually not necessary.

Insurance Coverage

Typically, cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance. Dental whitening is considered cosmetic so the cost for your whitening will need to be out of pocket. During your initial consultation, a knowledgeable member of our staff will discuss price quotes and payment choices with you. Radiant Dental Care offers many payment plans and can assist you in finding third-party financing to make your procedure affordable. We can also assist you with financing via CareCredit.
